Abstract Work

Spacer

My latest work is a return to one of my earliest concerns as a painter the abandonment of recognisable subject matter in favour of abstraction. That the matters of shape, and colour sensations are enough to be going with, that an atmosphere can be created for viewers which will allow them to be engaged with the work that I am making. In many instances the canvases are sufficiently large at eight feet by six feet that the idea of looking at a view of the world contained in a frame begins to disappear. It is the viewer who enters the world of the painting and something of a transcendental journey can take place. As the artist I too go on the voyage from one area of colour to the next, changing direction many times. The painting is an evolutionary process with results which are not always foreseen. They create their own magic for me as the artist and for the sympathetic spectator. They hopefully have their own life. Further details about my earlier work can be found online at my web site.
